MWI Refresher Mediation Training
MWI's Refresher Mediation Program is an eight-hour advanced mediation training program designed to refresh, recharge, and prepare mediators to effectively facilitate the mediation process. This program is focuses on best practices for mediators, including mediator as negotiation consultant, dealing with challenging personalities, overcoming barriers to agreement, challenges to neutrality, and dealing with power differentials.

REGISTRATION AND COST
Training tuition is $250 per person (or $225 with early registration). Space is limited to 12 participants.
TOPICS TO BE COVERED
This advanced mediation program will cover the following topics:
- How a mediator serves as a negotiation consultant
- The five principles of mediation and how a mediator can fulfill each stage
- The structure and stages of the mediation process including the how, when and why to use each stage
- Being "purposeful" and understanding why and how mediators decide what to do next
- Assisting parties to move from positions, to interests, to options and to agreement (or to their best alternative to an agreement)
- Co-mediation techniques (including planning with your co-mediator and giving and receiving feedback)
- Dealing with difficult parties and situations
- Strategies for helping clients overcoming impasse
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
- Mediators looking to increase their skill set and want to learn theory about their practice
- Mediators interested in mediating cases with MWI and/or mediators interested in applying to MWI's Boston Municipal & District Court Mediation Panel
- Trained mediators who would like a refresher class or who want to revisit areas discussed in MWI's Mediation Training Programs
- Trained mediators interested in building their capacity to mediate effectively
PREREQUISITES
Mediators interested in voluntary mediation opportunities in court must have completed at least 30-hours of basic mediation training and have experience with at least ten cases in the past two years. There are no prerequisites for other participants.
