Mentored Skill Development
MWI's Mentoring programs provide trained mediators with an opportunity to increase their awareness and effectiveness as mediators through supervised skill-development and advising with experienced MWI Mentors. MWI’s Director of Mediation & Arbitration Services, Josh Hoch, works with interested mentees to design a customized program so mediators can achieve their desired goals.
CUSTOMIZED MENTOR PROGRAM OPTIONS:
- EEOC Workplace Mediation Mentorship - prepares
mediators to effectively mediate workplace and employment cases
referred from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Details can be found at www.mwi.org/eeoc-mentor-program
- Strategic Mentoring– MWI Mentors are available to help mentees build their skills in the following areas: dealing with difficult parties, overcoming impasse, agreement writing, refining and internalizing the mediator’s opening and skillfully implementing the mediation process. Other mentees choose to spend time refreshing basic skills or learning advanced divorce mediation topics, including: child support, conducting a session dealing with finances, or issues of child abuse.
- Role Play Opportunities - MWI provides supervised solo mediation role play opportunities in a variety of topic matters that are of interest to the mentee, including: commercial, divorce, employment, and other business disputes.
- Observing Experienced Mediators - For those interested in observing MWI Mentors mediate, this can be arranged for court mediations, employment cases, commercial cases, divorce cases, and cases in District & Municipal Courts.
- Mediating While Receiving Feedback - MWI provides mediators with opportunities to attend court to solo or co-mediate cases while a MWI Mentor observes and provides feedback at the conclusion of the mediation.
- Debriefing of Cases - Mediators can arrange for a MWI Mentor to be available by phone, Skype or in person to debrief mediations. Opportunities range from 20 minutes to one hour. Debriefing cases allows mediators to reflect on the mediation and gain tips and learn new tools for dealing with aspects of the mediation they found challenging.
