Dispute Resolution Experience

Stephen J. McLaughlin is a real estate, land court and construction arbitrator and mediator with MWI. He has forty years of legal experience as a private commercial attorney, including extensive litigation experience, as well as broad dispute resolution training and experience in mediation, conciliation and arbitration. Mr. McLaughlin’s extensive ADR experience includes acting as an advocate in representation of parties engaged in ADR, and as a neutral conducting the ADR process. Mr. McLaughlin regularly acts as a mediator or conciliator in numerous court-connected ADR programs, including MWI’s court mediation programs. He is also a Commonwealth approved arbitrator for the Home Improvement Contractor (HIC) Arbitration Program administered by the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation (OCABR).


Real Estate, Land Use and Construction Related Experience
Mr. McLaughlin’s decades of law practice has afforded him extensive experience in real estate, land use, and construction law. He has twelve years of experience as a member of local Zoning Boards of Appeal, and also extensive experience representing applicants seeking Special Permits and Variances from local zoning boards. He has represented real estate developers in obtaining subdivision approval, site plan approval, and wetlands and Title V permits. He also has extensive experience in litigation in the Massachusetts Land Court and Superior Courts in judicial review of local zoning decisions. Mr. McLaughlin has represented commercial real estate lessors and lessees, and commercial real estate buyers and sellers in complex multi-million dollar transactions. He has also litigated numerous real estate broker commission disputes between and among commercial brokers relating to multi-million dollar sale transactions.
