Boston Public Schools Mediation Program
MWI’s mediation program for Boston Public Schools supports employees, staff, and administrators in addressing interpersonal conflict and strengthening relationships across the district. Through a combination of mediation services, interactive workshops, and tailored consultations, the program helps resolve disputes and builds internal capacity for constructive, long-term conflict resolution. By equipping members of the BPS community with practical tools and strategies, MWI helps to foster a more collaborative, inclusive, and respectful school environment.
Mediation
Mediation is a process in which parties agree to work together, with the assistance of a mediator, to discuss their concerns and work out a solution. The mediator helps to facilitate communication and empowers parties to create their own resolution. Mediation is a flexible process that allows the parties to discuss, in confidence, any issues they choose to address and determine the outcome. Mediation services can take place in person or remotely. If you have agreed to participate in a mediation, please complete an Agreement to Participate in Mediation Form.
Workshops
MWI offers one-hour workshops on various conflict resolution topics. These workshops are designed to help the BPS community get to know a mediator, gain a better understanding of the mediation process, and receive practical skills they can use at work and in their communities. Workshop topics include interactive listening skills, finding alignment on different perspectives, influence without authority, giving feedback, receiving feedback, having productive difficult conversations at work, and going from bystander to upstander.
Consultation
Employees and staff navigating conflict or workplace challenges can connect one-on-one with an impartial consultant by phone or Zoom. These confidential consultations provide a supportive space to explore difficult situations, gain perspective, and consider constructive options for moving forward. Whether you’re facing a communication breakdown, interpersonal tension, or uncertainty about handling a concern, consultation services are here to help you think through the challenge you’re facing and take the next step confidently.
